AIO for lowkey crashing out at my mom because she wanted to foster again

I am going to start back fostering in October. You will have to move back into my room with me. Don't worry I'll have things straightened out by the end of the month in my room to better accommodate your stuff. You may have to pack up some stuff for the shed so you can start thinking about that and packing things up.

What? There's no way you're serious... I am not watching any kids or anything like that. Why are you suddenly dropping this on me? I was basically trapped into this under the impression that I'd have my own room.. Why do you think I'd be okay with suddenly giving up all the privacy I have? I don't understand.

My mom was a foster parent for almost 20 years and decided to "quit" because of the stress. At a young age, I was kind of like a parent to the
  • 05
kids and helped A LOT. This made me not like kids and not want to have kids. Having to help with all the kids (up to 5 of them + my own siblings
  • 06
(luckily my siblings are older but still, it was overwhelming).. For the past 8 months I hadn't been living with her, and she had an open room in the
  • 07
house so she let me move in (I pay $850 for rent by the way). She randomly dropped this on me and I'm sooo upset. I just got a new bed frame, mattress, everything..

Fostering caused the whole family stress, fighting, and anger in general for years.. and financially we weren't really doing great as she had to spend A LOT of money on the
  • 09
kids. I am 19 by the way, and JUST moved back in with her last month under the impression that she wasn't going to ever foster again because that's what she told me. Am I overreacting?
  • 10
wamydia It sounds like she's using you for money and that's probably why she's fostering too. She will get paid a certain amount per month per kid.
  • 11
Objectively, you are paying rent for a room and she can't even enter without your permission, much less move someone into it and make you move into hers. So legally, she can't do this.
  • 12
Realistically, good luck getting any kind of justice, especially if you don't have a written agreement about the rent. The play here is to refuse to pay rent (because
  • 13
the room you paid to rent has been given to someone else, ergo you no longer owe rent), save up some money until she's ready to kick you out, and move back out. Even moving out
  • 14
with roommates would be better because at least you don't have to share a room with your mom. Do you have a job, OP? Now is the time to get one or to figure out how to bring in some side income.

Dry_Cherry_8519 OP I have a full time job and actually picked up a second job for extra money. I told her I'm not moving anything because this truly is ridiculous..
  • 17
Chazquas17 NOR but I'm confused why you put yourself in this position. You were living on your own but decided to move back in after only a few months of independence.
  • 18
callmewicked366 The fact that youre paying your parents rent, is all i need to know about your mother. Run. Run far far away.
  • 19
Dry_Cherry_8519 OP She actually owns a house and has a mortgage l am just paying $850 for my own room, I tried to negotiate for $600 but didn't work and I was desperate so..
  • 20
Visible Attitude 7693 So just leave? You cant make her not do it. And she cant make you stay.
  • 21
Dry_Cherry_8519 OP I get what you mean but it's just disappointing ②..
  • 22
Cheap_Country521 If you are living in her house, you shouldn't realy get to decide what she does. If you dont like it move out.
  • 23
Dry Cherry_8519 OP Who said that I was the one who decides what she does? My point is that I am upset with her decision because she is for sure going to want me to help take care of the kids which is not my responsibility, plus this was unexpected because she PROMISED me that she wasn't going to do this. I know you would be mad as h. 'I too.
